Sirens
Mermaids are
beings whose upper half usually has the appearance of a beautiful woman, while
the waist down, have no legs but a fish tail. It dates back to Greek
mythology, though the sirens have also appeared in the mythology and folklore
of different civilizations.
Despite being
originating in the mythological realm, with the passage of time the sirens
were introduced in the area of folklore, legendary and popular beliefs. Thus,
over the centuries there have been many alleged sightings of mermaids, which
have decreased in frequency with the advancement of scientific knowledge and
the decline of superstition. However, even in the twentieth century there have
been sightings.
At the present
date there is still no strong evidence to suggest the existence of mermaids,
and in the past could have been taken as evidence (fake corpses created by
taxidermists , for example), in general terms already enlightened . But
nevertheless remains a spark of doubt , to the point that some have made
scientific speculation that mermaids could be a missing link in human evolution
, and others from pseudoscience or esotericism have claimed that aquatic
females are a genetic experiment of aliens, or some other type of entity world, whether spirits, tulpas, or even demons ...
Greek mythology
The history of the
sirens is beings with bird body and torso or Woman's Face (harpies), and a
musical voice, sexy and hypnotic. It appears after the siren when we all know
and that, at least in regard to writings still preserved, first appears in a
famous book of Homer: The Odyssey.
The story of its
origin (in the mythic fiction) is: Ocean marries his sister Tethys and has
several children, such as Nereus, Doris, Aqueleo or Oceánidas, who were three
thousand and populated the seas.
Then there was a
new incest (mythology is full of incest) between Nereus and his beautiful
sister Doris, known as the "beautiful hair". From this union were
born the fifty Nereids, each with a special mission, and many of them mothers
of heroes like Achilles or Eaco.
